Financing for Indiana industries

Where we see the most demand for business financing in Indiana.

Manufacturing and RV/auto supply

Indiana suppliers to RV, automotive and steel customers often buy materials and run production weeks before an OEM pays, and demand can swing sharply with the cycle. Purchase order financing funds production against confirmed orders, asset-based lines unlock receivables and inventory, and equipment financing spreads the cost of new machinery.

Manufacturing is Indiana’s second-largest small business employer, with 166,240 small business employees. (source)

Transportation and warehousing

Interstate corridors around Indianapolis support carriers, freight brokers and warehouse operators who pay fuel, labor and lease costs well before shippers settle invoices. Invoice financing shortens that wait, and equipment financing helps add trucks, trailers and forklifts as contracts grow.

Health care practices

Indiana physician, dental and home-health providers wait on Medicaid, Medicare and private insurers to reimburse. SBA loans suit practice purchases and buildouts, and a line of credit smooths payroll between reimbursement cycles.

FAQ

Indiana business loan questions

What is Indiana’s Legend Fund?

The Legend Fund is an IEDC program funded through the federal SSBCI that distributes up to $29 million to mission-driven local lenders such as CDFIs and revolving loan funds. Those lenders can make loans from $5,000 to $1,000,000 for needs like working capital, equipment, inventory and start-up costs.

How do I find out which Indiana SSBCI programs I qualify for?

The IEDC’s SSBCI site has a short questionnaire about your business and financing needs that points you to compatible lenders and programs. The IEDC also funds free technical assistance for very small and SEDI-owned businesses, and the programs run until 2031 or until funding runs out.

Where can Indiana owners get free help putting together financials?

The Indiana SBDC has 10 regional offices, from Northwest Indiana at Purdue University Northwest to the Southwest Indiana Chamber in Evansville. Advisors help with business plans, projections and capital access at no cost.

Can Indiana parts suppliers finance a large new order?

Often, yes. When a supplier has a confirmed order from a creditworthy customer but not enough cash for materials, purchase order financing or an asset-based line secured by receivables and inventory can fund production. Terms depend on the customer’s credit and the supplier’s margins, and SMB Compass reviews each deal on its own facts.
