Michigan Business Loans

Manufacturing is the second-largest small business employer in Michigan, behind only health care, and many of those shops sit inside automotive supply chains that pay on long terms and change volumes with little notice. SMB Compass provides purchase order financing, asset-based lines, equipment loans and SBA financing for Michigan manufacturers, contractors and practices, sized to actual order flow. If a bank loan supported by one of MEDC’s collateral or participation programs looks cheaper for your situation, we will walk through that option with you too.

Business financing in Michigan

SMB Compass provides financing for established businesses from $25,000 to $5 million, with funding in as little as 24 hours. Applying takes a few minutes and won’t affect your credit score.

Manufacturing and auto suppliers

Tier 2 and Tier 3 suppliers in Michigan buy steel, resin and tooling weeks before an OEM or Tier 1 customer pays, and program launches can require new equipment on short notice. Purchase order financing funds materials for confirmed releases, asset-based lines grow with receivables and inventory, and equipment financing spreads the cost of presses and CNC machines over their useful life.

Construction

Seasonal road weight restrictions in spring and the first hard freeze in late fall bracket much of a Michigan contractor’s year, so billing tends to bunch into summer and early fall. A revolving line covers winter and early-spring overhead, equipment financing can be structured around that season, and invoice financing speeds up cash on approved progress bills.

Health care practices

Health care is Michigan’s largest small business employer. Independent physician groups, dental offices and home-care agencies wait on Medicaid managed-care plans and commercial payers while payroll runs on schedule. SBA 7(a) loans are commonly used when a younger clinician buys into or takes over a retiring owner’s practice, a working capital line covers claim timing, and equipment financing handles chairs, imaging and lab gear.

FAQ

Michigan business loan questions

Can I apply directly to MEDC for a small business loan?

No. MEDC says a small business first needs a bank, credit union or CDFI interested in making the loan, and that lender then applies to MEDC for support. The Collateral Support and Loan Participation programs are most useful when a deal is close to bankable but short on collateral or cash flow.

How do Michigan auto suppliers finance a new program launch?

Suppliers often combine equipment financing for tooling and machinery with purchase order financing or an asset-based line for materials and receivables. Lenders will look at the customer’s payment terms, the release schedule and the supplier’s margins on the program.
